4 dead, scores injured following Isiolo accident

Nairobi - 4 people have died and scores injured in an accident involving a lorry and several other vehicles in Isiolo town.
The incident took place Tuesday after the lorry lost its brakes and cantered downhill, crashing into a number of vehicles, bodabodas and a crowd of people at a market place.
Isiolo County Commander George Natembeya fears that the death toll will rise as the majority of those injured are in critical condition.
" We have had a very bad accident here and we have unfortunately lost four people with others in critical condition," he told News24 on phone.
" 2 people died on the spot while the other two died while receiving treatment," he added.
Thirteen other people, mostly pedestrians, were also injured in the Tuesday mornign accident.
The truck driver was ferrying goods to Moyale when he reportedly lost control at Subuiga Hill in Meru, before descending downhill.
The truck hit three vehicles, a motorcycle and pedestrians near Isiolo County Market. The pedestrians were at Isiolo Market for Christmas shopping
The driver and turn boy fled the scene of the accident.
" We are looking for them. We will catch up with them soon as we already know the owner through the registration numbers," he added.
