4 charged with Mandera quarry killings
18 March 2015, 17:21
Nairobi - 4 men have been charged with the murder of 36 quarry workers in Mandera.
The four, Abubakar Salim Kitonga, Maslah Daud Hassan, Musa Daud Hassan and Shukri
Abdi Salat were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi where
they denied the charges.
They are accused of carrying out the offence on December 2, 2014 at the Koromey quarry in Mandera.
The latter three were also charged separately for being in the country illegally.
Kitonga on his part was charged for facilitating the offence on the said date.
There will be a bail application hearing Thursday, with the prosecution objecting to bail for the suspects fearing they can flee the country at any given time.
The 36 were killed in cold blood after being forced to lie facing down and then shot on the head.
The attack came just a few metres away from the scene where 28 people were shot dead in similar circumstances after their bus was hijacked by alleged al Shabaab militants.
