300 orphans receive donations

15 February 2013, 16:16Alloys Musyoka

Over 300 orphans in Malindi district have been given school uniforms, books and food by a non-governmental organisation operating in the area.

The organisation, Anada Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT), donated the items to pupils from different public schools in the area in a bid to support them realize success in education and future even after losing their parents.

Most of their parents died of HIV/Aids and are being supported by either their relatives or well wishers.

Addressing the media in Malindi, the officer in charge of helping the orphans in the organisation Immanuel Kiti said that most of the pupils are between class one and class eight.

The officer added that 11 children out of the 300 supported by the organisation already sat their KCPE last year and 3 managed to score between 300 and 354 marks.

"The organization will provide school fees for the three so that they can continue with their secondary school education," he noted.

Kiti said the organisation will be providing lunch food for pupils in different schools so that they can continue with their studies without problems.

He called the government and other non governmental organisation to intervene and help other children who are in great need continue with studies.

"Helping orphans and other challenged children in this area is a challenge because the number is big, and so we appeal to well wishers, the government and non governmental organisations like us to come out and help these innocent children to realize their dreams," he said.
