3 ways to tell bad advice

01 December 2015, 17:03 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Bad advice is contagious. This is how to avoid it.

They sell you what had been their fantasy

That is what used to be their expectation when it came to the ideal person and how they expected their relationship or marriage to work. The time came; they settled or chose a completely different person so they are giving you advice based on what they assume would have been a better decision for them. If only they had done this, it could have worked out so you should. It will not make sense to you because you asked them in the first place since you like the ideal of what they have. In this case, go with your instinct, if what you see is what you would like. At times people are just not appreciative of something when they have it.

They apply what works for them

You go to someone because you assume since they know you, they will be able to help you. Problem is, they are not even thinking of you and what you would like but they are thinking, if it worked for me it will work for them.  At least you know they are genuine because you know it is with best intentions that they are hoping for you the best that they have. But if you know that you are not like them then it is best just to listen but make a decision based on what you would like.

They feel terrible talking about their failures and they do not want to

At times you go to someone because you know what they have been through and you would like to gain perspective from them from the lessons they got from their bad situation. They on the other hand would rather feed you false hopes and make-believe stories. It is best to just leave this one be.
