3 things your child should never see

28 October 2015, 18:01 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - There is a reason as to why I go so hard on parents. You had the choice of having them as a child but they did not have a choice in having you as a parent. We all know as part of the adult manual; do not have sex if you are not responsible and some of you are not responsible so you have a child whom you cannot even be responsible to for a day.

Be included in your arguments

Doing it in front of them and making them privy to your business and what your arguments are about. Some of you go PG but for get to take the children out. Go have it out in the bedroom or outside. But they should not have to carry your baggage.

You berating your partner

Not just your partner but you talking badly about their grandparent, an uncle or aunt because they rub you off the wrong way. Kids practice transference to a T. If you dislike them, they will know how to hate them and you cannot tell your child to respect you if they can disrespect other elders. You are all in the same group to them. Do not talk badly about their other parent to them. They are not your therapist.

Participate in your flings

This is for the single parents, who are still trying to find the one. When you are a parent you have to be responsible. Some of you aren’t and that includes with your dating life. You cannot have your child keeping up with people’s names and faces so that you do not get in hot water with the current one. That is not their business so keep it out of their head. If you need a place, look for an option that is outside your child. You are still going to do what you want, I am not there. Thing is only introduce people you feel you are going to be serious with. Actually, not feel but know.

You romancing each other

Hand out flowers, hug someone, give a peck on the cheek but that should just be it. I know it is new age and they really do get to see it on TV but when your child tells you it is gross that is because it is. Leave them alone and do it somewhere else. No caressing in front of them while they eat or watch television. Just leave the kids to be kids.
