3 signs you need to break up already

11 April 2016, 23:06 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - You need to break up right now. Here are three signs you do.

You are together because you had an ‘oops’ moment

The couple that were not sure where they were heading; both of them knew that the relationship was over but no one wanted to be the first to step up and end it. In that waiting period, you know what happened- they fell pregnant. So they decided to stay together for the child’s sake but you are still having the same problems but now you are not sure what to do.

It will be worse, when the two of you decided to have an even bigger family together when you know you two are already not working out. One of you will get hurt because eventually someone will step out and more people, the children, will get hurt. If it is not working out now, you two can decide on the best co-parenting but don’t force a relationship because of one child. You two can co-parent but still have better marriages and relationships with better partners.

You two are always fighting and arguing

That is what some couples call passion in a relationship. That is not passion but dysfunction. Getting into bar fights, having shouting matches every time, everywhere; that is not a good foundation for you to have any type of healthy relationship with this person; or to build any family on. You two need a break and if you are mature enough, you will figure out if that was something healthy you were actually involved in or you can do better as an adult.

Your families know each other

Have you ever seen a man’s mother bringing him a woman from the village because she comes from better stock as compared to the chimneys you find in Nairobi-yes that actually happens. If the man cannot stand his ground, you better prepare yourself to be a co-wife, second wife or side chick. You will think it is not working out and he will tell you he is going to sort it out. Thing is, if that other girl is beautiful, cooks, cleans and has no idea where you can find a bar in Nairobi. And sleeps on the sofa waiting for the man of the house to get in at eleven so that she can cook-you are in trouble.

As a woman you need to be realistic with yourself when you do not see your man defending you or letting his mother know who is boss.
