3 reasons not to say 'I love you'

04 December 2015, 13:02 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Three reasons why you should not say I love you?

They might just not be there with you yet

You are ruining it for them. They might have liked you, feel like they probably build something with you; take it from A-Z basically. Or they just want to take it slower than a month in and already being someone’s something because of three dates. When you blurt out something at the wrong time or when the momentum isn’t there yet; you look desperate. You are rushing them and thus turning them off. At times it is better off for someone else to make a move even if you feel it, that way you don’t ruin it.

Putting your expectations on someone else (them)

That tells them that you are already deeply invested in them. It does not matter if it might be fickle but at the end of the day you are somehow making them give an implicit promise of fulfilling the same as long as they are with you. That is why people run. They do not want that type of luggage when they are just getting to know you.

It might just be too premature, hence ruining the chance of you having a nice relationship

If only you had waited, maybe you and that other person might have actually had a nice thing going that could have led to an even better thing. You got worried that maybe they do not like you as much, were seeing other people and you wanted to compensate so you overcompensated by giving them that burden to carry. Your emotions; at times the most brutal, mean people are not that but they understand that you cannot toy with someone’s emotions. So instead of using you to get what they can from you (money, sex, name it); they walk away. They are not being bad but they are being mature enough to know that they are not yet ready to handle you and give you what you want. Your emotions are not something that they want to play with. You should reward such people in my opinion.

P.S All the above cases do not apply to people who have been in a relationship for more than a year. If they are not there, leave and find someone else. They will never be.
