Nairobi - 3 people died in flooding in the capital city Nairobi occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains in the country.
The flooding in Nairobi occurred after heavy rains on Tuesday night which pounded the city and in the end left the three dead.
According to police, the three include a woman and her three-year-old son who were swept away by flood waters in Kayole. An eight-year-old boy also from the same area, also according to police and Kenya Red Cross officials.
Kayole Police Chief Ali Nuno whilst confirming the incident, said that the bodies of the three had been recovered and taken to the Nairobi City Mortuary.
" Sadly, we have lost three people to the flooding that took place last night," he said.
" The reports are that they tried to cross a flooded section on foot and then they were swept away and drowned," he added.
The rains caused massive traffic jams in the city and huge delays for Nairobi residents who struggled to get home.
The 3 dead is once again a big loss for the city, with further rains last month causing the death of 15 people.
Governor Evans Kidero has also said that he will do his best to ensure needless losses of lives are curbed.
" We are working on ways to ensure that traffic flows as normal in the rains and that drainages are re-opened. However, we urge Kenyans to be cautious in the current weather too, to avoid needless deaths and injuries," he said.
