Nairobi - 3 Kenya Defence Forces officers were killed in an ambush in Somalia by Al Shabaab militants, the military has confirmed.
The three were in a group of soldiers on foot patrol along Delbio area in Somalia when the attack by the Shabaab soldiers took place.
Eight other soldiers were injured in the attack.
" The story is true. We have lost three soldiers Saturday and others are injured. We are lucky because the ambush could have taken more lives," a source at KDF headquarters in Nairobi that wished not to be named told News24.
The injured soldiers were forced to cross over to the Dadaab refugee camp to make their way to hospital as a military chopper sent to rescue them could not land in the area due to heavy rain.
The soldiers have been flown to the Forces Memorial Hospital in Nairobi for treatment.
Since Kenya went into Somalia, an unspecified number of soldiers have been killed in combat but officials have been coy on the number of those killed in the war on Al Shabaab.
