3 CS's to be charged by EACC for corruption

12 May 2015, 14:58 William Korir

Nairobi - Three Cabinet Secretaries will be charged in court for corruption after the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC forwarded their files to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP.

The names of the three will be revealed later Tuesday but according to sources among the three is Lands CS Charity Ngilu and Energy CS Davis Chirchir.

Other files, according to the sources will be presented to the DPP in the coming days.

The Director of Public Prosecution DPP also ordered that corruption charges against Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria continue.

The DPP said Monday that his office had established that the evidence presented against the two was enough to enable criminal charges be set up.

The third legislator to be charged is nominated MP Sonia Birdi.

" The DPP will dispense charges against the said persons after completing preliminary research on the available evidence," a statement from the DPP read.

The DPP also asked the EACC to institute procedures to have the two legislators vacate office while investigations continue.

Keter and Birdi are accused of trying to bribe officials at a weigh bridge to have an impounded lorry released, while Wa Iria is accused of abuse of office.

The three were named in an Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC report detailing corruption in the public service, with 175 public officials named.
