26 cows recovered from cattle rustlers

A prolonged heavy gun battle between cattle rustlers and Laikipia East security officers took place at Mugumo village in Buuri District where 26 cows were recovered.
The Laikipia East security agents managed to recover the 26 animals which were part of the 35 cows that had been stolen by the rustlers on Tuesday night at Ontulili village.
In the melee, a vehicle belonging to Timau Community policing was badly damaged by bullets as the cattle rustlers aimed at it.
Speaking to the media on phone, Umande location chief Wang’ombe Wanjau said they managed to recover the animals through a tip off from the community.
He also revealed that they lay traps for the rustlers who were heavily armed. “
“The operation was well planned by our agents and nobody was injured during the shootout”, confirmed Wangómbe.
The administrator added that the cattle rustlers later stole a sheep at Nginyei village in Daiga division which they slaughtered and eloped with some of its body parts.
He said that the rustlers are still being pursued.
