A 23-year old drunken man who beat up his father and torched his own house narrowly escaped lynching by members of the public in Homabay district yesterday.

Erick Omondi Obuya, sustained serious injuries during the 8pm incident which occurred at East Kochia Location, Asego Division.

Police rushed to the scene and rescued the son from irate villagers who accused the man of beating up his farther, Martin Obuya (48), over an undisclosed issue.

Officers from Odienye Police Camp took the 48 year old, who had been stripped naked and was bleeding profusely, to Homabay District Hospital for treatment.

After treatment, the father went to report the incident at the nearby chief’s camp, but on return was met with a rude shock after he found that the son had torched his own house estimated at sh20 000.

The incident further infuriated the villagers who ganged up and decided to teach the son a lesson for disrespecting the parent.

Confirming the incident, area OCPD Mr. Francis Kumut said the young man has been arrested and will be arraigned before court soon to face charges of torching his house and assaulting his father.

The OCPD cautioned the public against taking matters into their own hands by beating and lynching up suspects, and instead advised them take them to the nearest police station.
