Kampala - Police in Kampala on Thursday arrested 22 men suspected of growing marijuana in the city center which they smoke and sell as well.
According to Jinja Road police station commander, Charles Mugisha, the suspects during the day tend their marijuana garden as they sell and smoke part of it and at night they go out to terrorise people in the city.
He said their marijuana garden is near a channel not far from main abattoir in the city, Port Bell abattoir. It is located behind a tall wall of the abattoir which makes it difficult to be seen from far.
Mugisha said, ''We have arrested 22 people near a channel where they also have a garden of marijuana. Through our intelligence, we learnt that they sell part of the marijuana. They smoke it during day and at night move out to rob people in different parts of the city.
He said that among those arrested is a notorious robber, Asuman Kamunviri, who has been arrested several times before, taken to court and imprisoned but whenever he comes out of prison after serving his sentence, continues from where he had stopped.
He said the suspects will be arraigned to answer to charges of growing and smoking marijuana, robbery, and dealing in illicit drugs.
