Nairobi - The 2017 General Elections will be held on August 8, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC has announced.
IEBC chairman Isack Hassan made the announcement Thursday, saying that the Commision will look to register 23.4 million voters for the poll.
He stated that the IEBC is currently facing a number of financial issues that they need to address to be able to prepare well and hold good elections.
" The challenge we have is that there are not enough funds to be able to help hold the elections and that is a major challenge," he said in Nairobi Thursday.
Hassan also announced that Foreign Countries with more than 3000 Kenyans will qualify to serve as polling stations for Kenyans in the diaspora. The commission is now urging all eligible Kenyans to register as voters even as it calls on the national treasury to provide adequate and timely funding to enable election preparations.
" We anticipate that the 2017 polls will be the biggest ever and we are hoping to pull off a real show," he added.
