2017 Elections will be free and fair says DP Ruto

07 January 2016, 18:06 William Korir

Nairobi - The 2017 General Elections will be free and fair, DP William Ruto has told Kenyans.

Reacting to allegations that the polls will be rigged by the Jubilee Party come 2017 both by the opposition and following remarks by a Jubilee politician, the DP has come out to assure Kenyans that nothing of the sort will take place.

He has also called on those spreading such messages to cease with immediate effect.

" I can assure you that the government will be keen to ensure that the 2017 elections are free and fair," he said on Thursday in a statement.

He stated however, that those inciting Kenyans to the contrary were doing the country a disservice.

" Kenyans do not need to be given much to worry about. Let the elections come and I can assure you that as a country and a nation we will strive to have free and fair elections.

The remarks by Jubilee Coalition's Mohamed Shabhal in Kilifi over the weekend where he said that the ruling coalition will win the elections even if it means by stealing were not taken lightly by the opposition and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision.

Ruto was in attendance in Kilifi when Shabhal made the comments.

A few days later, CORD leader Raila Odinga complained of a plot to steal the 2017 polls by the Jubilee Coalition, of which Jubilee has been unhappy with.
