2000 ECD teachers to be recruited in Bungoma

08 January 2014, 14:24 Samuel Kisika

Bungoma - The Ministry of Education in Bungoma County is set to employ a total of 2 000 early childhood development (ECD) teachers in all public schools to promote early childhood education.

The Minister for Education, Beril Mutekhele, said the recruitment of ECD teachers will assist in building a good foundation of children for better future academic performance.

“We are employing 2000 ECD teachers: two per public school while schools having many children will get four teachers. Unless these children are given the right foundation, they won’t perform even as they go to primary school and class eight,” said Mutekhele.

Mutekhele noted that building the right foundation for children in education at the ECD level helps address poor performance challenge in the national examinations.

She also said her ministry is going to construct three ECD classrooms in every public school in the County and thus called on the County representatives to assist in identifying such schools in their wards.

“This year, we are supposed to construct ECD classes in schools but because we are employing teachers, we are going to build three ECD classrooms in every public school in all wards,” reiterated Mutekhele.

She stated that the construction of classrooms will reduce overcrowding in classes hence enhancing ECD education in the County.

Mutekhele was speaking during her visit at Kamasielo polytechnic in Bumula Constituency.
