20 die in Kampala accident

Kampala - At least 20 people have been reported dead following an accident that occurred Wednesday morning along Kampala-Masaka road.
The accident took place at a sharp bend at Katende village about 30 KMs from Kampala, and involved two taxis, two small vehicles and two lorries.
A traffic officer, Aron Musazi said: ''It was raining heavily when the accident involving six vehicles happened.''
An ayewitness, Fabiano Nkutu said that a speeding taxi knocked a lorry which was ahead, overturning in the middle of the road.
Other vehicles also knocked it forcing it to overturn, killing 20 people.
He said that among the dead were 7 women and 4 children.
''We had to use axes to cut into some of the vehicles to remove the dead bodies. A few survivors were rushed to hospital,'' said Nkutu.
Over 20 000 people die everyday from accidents caused by reckless drivers. Uganda is one of the countries with high rates of road accidents.
