A two-year-old boy drowned in a borehole on Thursday morning in Achunet village near Teso North district headquarters of Amagoro.
Daniel Oliro disappeared from the custody of his mother, only to be found floating in the borehole within the compound one hour later.
Narrating the incident the child’s mother, Elizabeth Adionyi said she was busy with house chores while the child was outside playing with
other children.
Adionyi said she discovered that her son who was playing with others had disappeared when she called them for lunch.
When asked where her son had gone one of the children said they saw him head towards the borehole.
The woman broke into tears when she discovered her son’s body floating in the borehole which is still under construction.
Amagoro Location acting chief, Daniel Otwani attributed the death of the boy to negligence by family members who left a dangerous project
bare open.
He said the seven feet hole was left open instead of having it secured considering that it was dangerous to children.
Otwani said the body is still lying at home after family members pleaded with the police not to have it taken to the mortuary for preservation owing to their poor financial status.
