Three people have been admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu after two were doused with petrol and set ablaze while the third one was beaten senseless by irate members of the public at Awasi in Nyando District.
Nyando District Commissioner Isaiah Tonui said the two suspects both said to be residents of Nyang’oma location in Muhoroni District were allegedly caught by a watchman stealing metals from a site where a multi-storied hotel building was being constructed.
Tonui said a huge crowd gathered within minutes during the 5am incident in which Moses Ouma Onyango and Alfonse Onyango Okumu (aged between 38 and 40) were doused with petrol and set ablaze but quick intervention by police officers saved their lives.
However, the DC explained that when the building’s owner Ben Owanga attempted to intervene, the crowd turned their anger on him beating him senseless before he could be saved by police officers.
DC Tonui said the trio was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in a bad state and put under the Intensive Care Unit.
