2 perish in road accident

20 March 2013, 15:11 Wangui Joseph

Two people died on the spot following a road accident along Mukurweini - Karatina road in Nyeri County Tuesday evening.

Nyeri South OCPD Adiel Nyange said the car which was driven by a woman immediately lost control after one of its rear tyres busted.

The speeding car then plunged into nearby bushes.

The OCPD said the passengers were from a funeral at Kaheti village in Karatina when the accident occurred.

Reportedly, on board were some family members and friends.

Nyange confirmed that one person lost life on the spot while his counterpart passed away few metres from the scene, on his way to hospital.

Those who were injured were rushed to Karatina District hospital where they are hospitalised while bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital’s morgue.

They were rescued by passers by out the wreckage.

Nyange asked all road users and drivers to be extra careful while using roads with any means of transport.

In another incident, a police officer committed suicide in his house at Mukurwe-ini police station.

The incident was noted by his fellow officers who got suspicious after their colleague failed to report for duty on Tuesday morning.

They went to his quarter but the room was locked from inside.

After peeping through the window, they saw a body dangling from the house rafter and decided to break in.

The OCPD said the deceased left no notice and his move to commit suicide could not be immediately established.

He condemned the act saying if it was a problem, he would rather have confided to his colleagues instead of committing suicide.
