2 people die in separate accidents

A middle aged woman died and 48 others escaped death when a passenger bus lost control and rolled at Mida area in Malindi district along Mombasa - Malindi highway.

The bus is said to have been heading to Mandera from Mombasa ferrying 48 passengers when the driver lost control causing the vehicle to swerve and roll.

Red cross disater response team responded immediately and rescued those injured and took them to Malindi district hospital.

According to Malindi Red Cross coordinator Musa Hassan Musa, 30 passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital with 17 others escaping un hurt.

He said those sustained injuries during the accident are doing well with some having been discharged already.

Musa added that 17 passengers who escaped un hurt boarded other vehicles to continue with their journey.

He said most of them sustained injuries on the head and hands.

The body of the deceased was taken to on of the private hospital mortuaries in Malindi.

Malindi traffic boss Bernard Ibaya said they are investigating the incident to know the exact cause of the accident.

He cautioned drivers against flouting traffic rules to avoid accidents which could be avoided.

Elsewhere, a cyclist died after he was rammed by Matatu which was speeding to overtake a motorcycle at Kwachocha village in Malindi along Malindi - Mombasa Highway.

Malindi traffic boss Bernard Ibaya said the driver of the matatu hit the motorcycle from behind and swerved to the right side where it ran over a cyclist killing him on the spot.

The motorcyclist broke his leg and was taken to Malindi district hospital where he was being treated while the body of the deceased was taken to a mortuary in a private hospital.
