Two suspects were caught red handed trying to sneak out of the new Nyanza Provincial Headquarters with a laptop and phone believed to have been stolen from the National Authority for Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) offices.
Michael Otieno and Timothy Bernard Ochieng were nabbed by hawkeyed Administration Police (APs) Officers with the laptop that was hidden in a black bag soon after an alarm was raised by an official at the NACADA office after realizing that the computer was missing.
According to witnesses, the duo had just left NACADA offices and were headed to the front gate hoping to escape into the Kisumu City Central Business District (CBD) but the APs became suspicious and started frisking them only to discover the laptop.
The incident infuriated the APs who could not hold their anger and immediately confronted them and ordered them to sit down as others rained blows on them.
They were bitter that APs have in the recent past been blamed as abetting such crime across the Province and so were happy that the proverbial 40 days had come to pass.
Recently, four computers were stolen from Immigration offices, two others from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices, a camera from the Registrar of Person’s Office as well as a Water dispenser.
The suspects were taken to Miwani police station after a thorough beating by the angry mob.
Investigations have already been launched on the matter in a bid to curb future theft of computers from Government offices as had been witnessed in the past.
