18 teams to participate in the 2015 KPL season

11 November 2014, 10:59 Chepkwony Robert

Nairobi - Top Fry All Stars is the only team that will be relegated from the Kenya Premier League (KPL) following new developments to have 18 teams in the 2015 Tusker Premier League season.

The changes, by Football Kenya Federation (FKF), will also see three teams from lower divisions get automatic promotion to the top flight competition.

The development by FKF has seen the ‘always lucky’ City Stars escape the axe once again.

City and All Stars had their fate of playing in the top tier next season determined but a communication from FKF sent to media houses state that All Stars are the only automatic relegated team from the 2014 KPL season.

“The number 16 team in the KPL Nakuru All Stars will be automatically relegated to the lower league while the number 15 team Nairobi City Stars F.C. will remain in the league,” the statement read in part.

The proposed promotional criteria indicated that the two winners of National Super League Zone A and B respectively will earn an automatic promotion.

“The two automatic winners of the FKF National Super league Zone A and B namely Shabana and Rangers FC will be automatically promoted.”

The last slot by the teams in NSL will face a play off to determine the third team to be promoted.

“The two 1st runners-up in the FKF National Super League Zone A and B namely Kakamega Homeboyz and Nakumatt F.C will square it off in one match and the winner takes the third qualifying slot.”

The play off pitting Nakumatt FC and Kakamega Homeboyz will be staged on November 22 at Afraha Stadium.
