A 15 year old schoolgirl yesterday drowned while attempting to cross a flooded river as his brother escaped death by a whisker in Homabay district.
The siblings had been selling fruits and vegetables in Homabay town and were on their way home when they were swept away by the raging waters of Auro River.
The unfortunate 6 pm incident has left villagers at Maguti Village in West Kanyada Location a shocked lot.
Lavender Oyoo drowned helplessly while crying out for help, though frantic efforts by the villagers resulted to the rescue of his 8 year old younger brother, Victor Omondi Oyoo.
According to their father, Jeckonia Odero, the water force threw the class two boy to the banks where villagers rescued him.
The unconscious boy was immediately rushed to the Homabay District Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
The body of the girl was discovered this morning and taken to the Homabay district hospital mortuary for preservation before burial exercise.
