12 policemen to be interdicted over illicit brew trade

Nyeri - Twelve policemen from Central Kenya found to be supporting sale of illegal alcoholic drinks will be interdicted, Central regional commissioner, Micheal Tialal has said.
The officers were found to be either in the business or hiding illicit brews on behalf of local businessmen.
Tialal, who is also the Nyeri County Commissioner, said several chiefs and their assistants have already been sacked for engaging in illicit brew trade.

He further observed that the crackdown ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta was a success, with 90 percent of the brew destroyed.
He also noted that the operation will continue.
The Commissioner said alcoholism and insecurity were the major social challenges facing the region's population, singling out alcoholism as a major problem among young people.
