12 beer factories closed down in Kirinyaga

Kirinyaga - Some 12 factories that engage in making second generation alcoholic drinks in Kirinyaga County have been closed down.
County Commissioner Erastus Ekidor said the factories will not be allowed to produce the brews following public outcry.

He was speaking at Karia market during a crackdown on illicit brews where close to 2,000 litres of Makabo brews were destroyed.
The brews had been confiscated by chiefs and Administration Police (AP) officers at Ngaru village.
The commissioner raised alarm that the brewers were using harmful items in producing the liquor which in turn harm the consumers’ health.
