11 students jailed over murder

Kampala - 11 students, all below 16 years have been jailed in Uganda for killing a person.
The senior one, students of Emirates high school in Entebbe municipality, aged between 13 and 15 years were remanded at Nagulu children's prison by magistrate Julian Kimono of Entebbe court after prosecution convicted them with murder.
According to prosecution, the senior one students killed a man they suspected to be stealing their food on February 6 after the school authorities sent them to work in the school garden.
''Without confirming whether the man was indeed a thief, the students clobbered him to death,'' said prosecutor, Andrew Wassa.

It is alleged that some villagers joined the students in killing the suspected thief but have not been arrested yet because they have reportedly fled.
Mob justice is nowadays common in Uganda and many people have been killed in such a manner.
According to police, some of those killed are innocent people mistaken to be criminals.
