Naivasha - Scores of people including a senior education officer were injured during a multiple-car accident along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway Thursday morning.
The accident involved an army truck that developed a mechanical problem ramming into three vehicles including that of Naivasha sub-county education officer, Mbugua Kabaki.
Passengers in a matatu escaped death narrowly after the fast speeding truck drove downhill before losing control and landing into a ditch.
A witness said that the education officer and ten people escaped with injuries and were rushed to hospital in critical but stable condition.
“The army truck lost its brakes and hit three other vehicles injuring scores on people before it came to a stop kilometers away,” he said.
Naivasha OCPD, Charles Kortok confirmed the accident saying that those injured had been treated and discharged.
“The mangled wrecks have been towed to the police station and our officers are investigating the matter,” he said on phone.
Meanwhile, irate members of the public in Naivasha torched a motor vehicle and arrested two suspects said to be behind the spate of cattle rustling in the area.
Three other suspects escaped during the 3am incident near the shores of Lake Naivasha after they were found escorting livestock suspected to have been stolen.
Following the incident, police launched a manhunt for a leading Naivasha businessman who was said to be the mastermind of the robbery.
