1,000 Police surround court as tension builds ahead of Wetangula decision

Nairobi - Close to 1,000 policemen are in and around the Milimani Law Courts and adjoining areas in anticipation of the ruling by the IEBC on whether to ban Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula from office.
The paramilitary policemen can be seen on the roads in and around the court as well as the nearby Uhuru Park where they are awaiting the result of the probe.
Wetangula is being investigated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC over voter bribery and could as well be barred from seeking elective office.
Hundreds of his supporters are outside the court patiently awaiting the ruling and Police have taken no chances in securing the area.
" We are here to secure the area. The presence is just to ensure that we keep peace in the face of whatever ruling might be made," Central Police boss Paul Wanjama told News24 outside the court premises.

The supporters were calm even though they chanted some songs whilst there, praising Wetangula and other CORD leaders.
" I am here to support the Senator, not cause violence. There is no need for all these Policemen," Lawrence Omutia told News24.
The IEBC is set to decide whether it will strike Wetangula off the voter's list after he was accused of voter bribery by the Supreme Court.
If he is removed, he will automatically lose his seat as well as land a 10 year ban.
The issue has brought tension in Wetangula's Bungoma County where leaflets have been circulating promising violence if he is barred from politics.
