10 schools in Nyeri closed down over unrest

Nairobi - About 10 secondary schools in Nyeri County have been closed down indefinitely in the last two days over unrest.
The most affected sub–county is Tetu where four schools have been closed down including Dedan Kimathi and Ngooru Secondary schools after students protested.
On Thursday night, Ihithe and Muhoya secondary schools students also walked out of the school without destroying anything according to area Deputy Commissioner Herman Shambi.
In Nyeri Central sub-county, Muthua-ini Secondary School students also walked out of the school the same night.
In Othaya, some of the students of Kairuthi Secondary School attempted to strike but police thwarted them and camped at the school according to area OCPD Joseph Mwika.
At Gatugi Girls in Othaya, there was tension when transformer burst at the school though nolmacy returned shortly later.
Giakabei Secondary School was the first to be affected by the strike early in the week after students allegedly burnt down dormitory and a laboratory.
