1 million bond for Rongai accident matatu driver nicknamed 'killer'

Nairobi - The driver of the matatu that killed a number of people along Lang'ata Road has been released on a KES 1 million bond.
Francis Mukuria Kinyanjui will stay in custody for 14 days for police to conclude investigations first before being released.
The matatu accident eight days ago killed 4 people and injured four others seriously.
Police have been given the 14 days to allow them record statements from witnesses and filling of P3 forms.
Magistrate Barbara Ojoo ordered that the bond terms granted to Mr Kinyanjui be applicable after the fourteen days.
" The accused is granted bail terms by the Constitution and thus cannot be held unless Police are through with their investigations," the magistrate stated.
said that despite the public outrage and protests the case elicited,
the accused can not be denied his constitutional right to bond.
The case has drawn much public anger following the accident which was blamed on bad driving. It has also since emerged that the vehicle which crashed was nicknamed ambulance thanks to the speed with which it was being driven.
It has also emerged since that the driver is nicknamed 'the killer' for his previous brushes with serious accidents.
