1 dead, 15 injured in Mombasa accident

Mombasa - One person has died and 15 others injured in a road accident at Shanzu along Mombasa - Malindi road.
confirming the accident, Kisauni Police Boss Richard Ngatia said that the matatu was heading to Malindi from Mombasa when the driver hit an oncoming personal car while trying to overtake another vehicle at Shanzu.
Ngatia said that the driver of the personal car died on the spot but 15 passengers in the matatu were left with injuries.
"No doubt both vehicles were over- speeding though the matatu driver was driving recklessly thus causing the accident," reiterated Ngatia.
According to some of the passengers involved in the tragic Sunday morning accident, the driver of the matatu was driving at a high speed thus causing the accident.

The accident caused a major snarl up along the busy Mombasa -Malindi highway until traffic officers cleared the road an hour later.
The injured are receiving treatment at the Coast General Hospital.
Ngatia has cautioned drivers plying the route to be very careful so as to avoid such tragic incidents.
"Not only drivers plying the Mombasa-Malindi highway but all road users in the County should practice vigilance and always observe traffic rules," said Ngatia.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Coast general hospital morgue.
