VIDEO: Defying death for 600secs

13 August 2013, 16:11

The new 2014 RZR XP1000 is "the most powerful and advanced utility task vehicle (UTV*) to hit the market" - at least that's according to its creator Polaris.

The automaker posted a video on YouTube stating: "Professional driver. One-of-a-kind heavily modified vehicle. Do not attempt. You could die." Read the rest of this story for the details, then get a cup of coffee or a beer, sit back and...

Polaris, an American snowmobile and ATV maker, says it has raised the performance bar with the launch of its RZR XP1000 and adds: "There is no better combination of fun and performance. We wanted to build on that platform and show the world how incredible the XP1000 is - so we created XP1K.

“UTVUnderground.com and Mad Media taped our friend, championship UTV and Pro-Lite racer RJ Anderson, driving our 2014 Polaris RZR XP1K machines and together we put down a dream-list of stunts and tricks that we could stitch together into a single, over-the-top, video.

“We assembled an off-road dream team to build two RZR XP1K UTV units so that we could attempt the most fantastic and challenging UTV stunts yet filmed.”

The guys at Polaris said the RZR XP1K machines started out as bone-stock units and were built into race-ready vehicles with the help of suspension master Randy Anderson, UTV racecar builder and racer Mark Holz, engine and drive-train guru Kevin Kroyer and Polaris RZR turbo expert Trey Lokey.

Power is derived from a 1010cc Kroyer Racing Engine turbo Pro-Star unit. It has Falken tyres, a Sparco EVO II race seat, Walker Evans racing shocks and several funky bits from Holz and Joe's Racing products.

The team picked an abandoned iron mine just East of Palm Springs, California called Eagle Mountain. It has been used in several TV commercials and movies for futuristic killing machines (think 'Terminator') but was the perfect off-road playground to showcase RJ Anderson's driving skills and the ruggedness of the new RZR XP1000.

The team said: “The goal of this project was simple. We wanted to share our love of UTV's with the world. We wanted to put YOU in the driver’s seat and let you feel what it's like to mash the gas pedal and GO!”

*An ATV, or all terrain vehicle, is an off-road, single-rider vehicle intended for use as a recreational vehicle, racer, or transport over rough terrain. A UTV, or utility task vehicle, is also intended for use over rough terrain but for two people and it features a truck-like bed specifically for this purpose.
