Beetle concept charms China

The headline act at Volkswagen’s Auto China stand is the two-seater Beetle concept called the E-Bugster.
The latest concept follows on from the E-Bugster shown in January at the 2012 Detroit auto show but adds a folding canvas roof. As with the earlier concept, this E-Bugster is also battery-powered.
Its lithium-ion battery pack weighs 80kg but dispatches 85kW and allows for a claimed range of at least 180km around a city.
BUILT FOR THE CITY
battery pack has a quick-charge function that allows the batteries to
be “refuelled” within 35 minutes at special charging stations.
Also on show at the Beijing show are a new Lavida (an A-segment sedan only sold in China), the diesel Cross Coupé, a Phaeton concept finished in exclusive Poltrona Frau (an Italian design centre) leather and a new 184kW/310Nm three-litre V6 for the CC (also not for South Africa).
The Auto China show is on in Beijing from April 23 to May 2, 2012.
