London - BMW revealed its network of dealers that will supply and support its "i" electric car sub-brand in the UK - 46 sales agents across the UK will offer the range.
BMW will launch two models - the electric i3 and plug-in hybrid i8.
BMW UK's MD, Tim Abbott, said customer inquiries about BMW i were already “extremely high” - more than 6 000 registering their interest.
BMW i3 CITY CAR
According to BMW, the i3 will be the world’s first mass-produced carbon-fibre vehicle and will weigh 1 250kg, including the battery pack. Abut the same as any other small car.
The four-door model is powered by an electric power train developing 125kW/250Nm driving the rear wheels (hey, it IS a BMW!) through a single speed gearbox.
The i3 has a claimed range of 160km on a full charge.
BMW i8 SUPERCAR
The i8 electric supercar is powered by a 96kW/250Nm electric motor and 164kW/300Nm three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Total output is rated at 260kW and the model can sprint from 0-100km/h in less than five seconds, reaching a top speed of 250km/h.
It will cost close to KES 15 million.
