4G turbo-boost for Audi's A3

16 August 2013, 16:29

Germany - Audi’s in-car internet access has had a turbo boost as the brand becomes the first automaker to offer fourth generation (4G) data transfer as standard in a production car.

The connectivity enables the faster transfer of large amounts of data, such as music and films in high-definition, via the Internet.

The technology is available in the Audi S3 Sportback and will be available in all other variants in the premium compact range by November 2013. Audi said: “The integration of 4G marks a very important step in the evolution of the Audi Connect system, which networks the car with the driver and the internet.

“In the future it could also provide an interface with the infrastructure and with other vehicles.”

Audi’s multi-media interface (MMI) will allow the driver or passenger to log on to Google Earth and Street View, Audi’s music streaming/web radio, and online traffic information. Facebook and Twitter can also be accessed with text-to-speech.

MMI "navigation plus" with Audi Connect is required and is sold as part of the vehicle’s technology package. A suitable SIM data card needs to be inserted into the appropriate slot in the glove box of the S3 Sportback.
