Abuja - Coming hot on the heels of the new plus-size Barbie, a surprising alternative version of the doll has hit the market in a popular Instagram account, Daily Mail reports.
Hijarbie, as she has been lovingly named, showcases various high-fashion outfits geared towards the Muslim market, with all her outfits coming complete with a headscarf.
The brainchild of Nigerian student Haneefah Adam (24), Hijarbie's outfits are inspired by everyday looks worn by what Adam has described as "hijabi girls".
Although the doll's Instagram account was started as an outlet for Adam's creativity, Hijarbie has taken the Internet by storm, gaining more than 12 000 followers to date.
Adams has expressed that she hopes the doll will promote positive awareness and inspire a new generation of Muslim girls.
Adams has explained that the dolls have not yet diversified because of the limited range of Barbie dolls available on the Nigerian market.
Although she has reportedly ordered black Barbie dolls online, Adams has revealed that she plans to use what she has at the moment, with her ultimate goal being to start a website where she will eventually sell the clothes she makes for her Hijarbie dolls.
