Nairobi - You’ve probably tried them all, but some lovemaking positions are better than others for making babies.

Here’s our guide to what works best.

Rear-entry, when the man enters the woman from behind, either lying down or kneeling, can deposit sperm close to the cervix and aid conception;

Side-by-side — this can be a relaxing position, which feels very intimate. It can also help with conception;

Some clinicians maintain that the woman’s chances of conceiving improve if she lies on her back for up to an hour after intercourse, preferably on her back. This is obviously not advisable for women who are predisposed toward infections and who usually go to the bathroom to wash straight after lovemaking;

Orgasm appears to play a role too. The contractions that occur when the earth moves may convey sperm deeper into the cervix.
