Would you get married in a funeral parlour?

04 August 2015, 09:49 Tammy February

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to wedding locations, funeral homes are not exactly on my ‘top 10 places to get married’ married list.

Firstly, it’s just so unbelievably morbid.

And secondly, I speak from the perspective of someone who’s worked as a data capturer at a run-down funeral parlour (where my days were spent listening to the bickering of the family members running the business; and the smell of dead bodies).

Trust me, that smell will take your breath away – and for all the wrong reasons.

So, when I first stumbled upon this feature article on The Huffington Post, I was stumped.

Not only did Chelsea and Barry Lesnick, a couple hailing from Ohio get married at Chelsea’s family-run funeral home, but, and according to Huff Post,  they fell in love with the idea the moment her father suggested using Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Centre as their location.

What’s more is that they aren’t the first couple to do this. According to Fortune.com, more and more people are opting for less costly funerals, causing funeral homes to look elsewhere for profit, i.e. by incorporating wedding venue services.

An inventive, if rather gloomy option.
