Radio presenter and MC, Kia Johnson, 7-months pregnant and Mom to a 3-year old daughter, has partnered with Quentin Chong from Dragon Power to adapt her self-defense routine, accommodating her pregnant belly and keeping both herself and her baby safe.

Kia has been training with Quentin for several years and together they have now created a series of videos, giving pregnant women tips on self-defense and teaching them specific moves: Getting in and out of your car; Walking in an alley; and Walking to your car in the parking lot of a mall.
The videos will be hosted on Kia’s YouTube channel “Life with Kia”. Kia launched the channel late last year to create her own content and engage with her audience and fans. “I feature a variety of topics on my channel, including everyday advice on parenting based on my experience as a mom, ideas on how to get involved with issues affecting the community in which I live, and good news, motivational content”, says Johnson.
The self-defense videos center around three key points: always be aware of your surroundings, use common sense and focus. “Pregnant or not, there are some basics that remain important for self-defense”, says Chong. “These include having your handbag on your weaker arm, so the stronger arm is available to defend yourself – and your belly, not making yourself vulnerable to being an easy targets, and always checking your surroundings.”
The first two videos have gone live and can be viewed here: Video one, video two.
