4 types of people to avoid being around when you’re planning your wedding

16 August 2015, 09:37 Staff

Wedding planning is fun. Most brides-to-be and already married couples will tell you that. But, they’ll also tell you that it can, at times, be incredibly stressful. Things can go wrong. Plans can fall through and more money than expected often ends up being spent.

Unfortunately, not everything in life can be avoided, but there are some aspects that you at least can control; that being the people you allow in your inner circle.

Especially those that make it a point to question everything about the choices you’re making.

We highlight the five types of people you should definitely steer clear of in order to have just that much of a better wedding planning experience.

1.  The bitter doomsday prophet

People like this are the absolute worst. They’re often divorced, or newly single and their experience has left them feeling jaded.

Utterances like “Why get married?”and “These days, most marriages end up in divorce anyway,” are often spewed with no thought for the happy couple.

While we certainly have sympathy for people who go  through a nasty break-up or divorce, if you’ve been going through a rough time, the last thing you should do is project what you’re feeling onto someone else.

It makes them feel bad and it makes you look even worse.

2.  The overly-involved acquaintance who wants to know ALL the details of your wedding  (only to play copy cat later on)

This person is another one of the most irritating people you’re likely to encounter.

What makes it worse is that the interest in your wedding is far from genuine. In fact, all this person wants is details on the vendors and services you meticulously researched, so that they don’t have to make the effort in creating a carbon copy of “better” version of your wedding.

3.  The people who demand to know what your plans are now that you’re getting married

... and by that I really mean the people who like to ask that one question that everyone hates: “Now that you’re getting married, when are you going to have kids?”

These folk like to think that, with the engagement, you should have a fully illustrated and planned out chart of ALL THE THINGS that should and will happen next in your life (and don’t you dare exclude date and timestamps).

What these people are forgetting is that a) it’s not their place to question what you want to do with your life and b) some couples just don’t want kids.

4. The overbearing advice-giver

Oh, we’re not talking about the people who genuinely offer tips that can help you save time, money and effort here. No, the souls who fall under this category are those who walk around wearing an “I know better than you because I’ve done this before” attitude.
