Onyeka Onwenu gets political appointment

Abuja - Nigerian veteran musician Onyeka Onwenu has been appointed as the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) in Abuja.

According to Thisdaylive, Onwenu's appointment was made official in a letter signed by the secretary to the government of the federation, senator Ayim Pius Ayim.

According to Thisdaylive, the musician confirmed the appointment in a telephone conversation. "Yes, it is true; but I am in Enugu right now," Onwenu is reported to have said.

The award-winning singer and actress who was a judge on the just-concluded Glo X-Factor is not new to politics as she previously contested and lost a chairmanship election for Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State under the ruling Peoples' Democratic Party.

The 2006 African Movie Academy Award winner for Best Actress in a Supporting Role was previously the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts
