'National festival can boost unity'

17 September 2013, 19:33

Abuja - Funmi Ladele of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC) said the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) could be used to restore Nigeria’s unity.

Ladele, who is the director of documentation services at the centre, said in Lagos on Friday that the national festival was an avenue for cultural integration among Nigerians.

She said that NAFEST could be used to demonstrate cultural heritage of different ethnic groups in order to forge national unity through cultural integration.

"Cultural integration will enhance the exchange of ideas among Africans including arts and culture practitioners.

"It will also serve as an avenue for job creation, youth development and promotion of cultural products, `` Ladele said.

Tthe 2013 NAFEST festival will be held on Sept. 14 at Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

Ladele said that the centre would showcase 72 publications detailing African arts, cultures, ethnic groups, religions, beliefs, tribes and others.

She said that the publications would assist students, researchers, foreigners and individuals to understand the African ways of life and their cultural beliefs.

"CBAAC is committed to teaching and propagating African history and culture to the Diaspora and also for the promotion, preservation and presentation of the cultural heritage of Blacks and the African people, `` she said.

Ladele urged investors to invest in African culture, arts and historical values for national development.
