Cape Town - According to the Paarl Post community newspaper the film set for Meryl Streep’s latest movie Giver has been the target of thieves.
Media reported on Wednesday that Meryl will be heading to Cape Town in October to start work on her latest movie based on Lois Lowry's 1993 young adult sci-fi novel.
Construction on the set, which is being erected, had barely started when iron rods which had been planted to demarcate the building lines of houses were stolen over the weekend.
These have now been replaced with wooden rods in the hope that they will not be stolen.
The sets will consist of the facades of six houses and one complete wooden house. Landscaping and lawn specialists will be working on the existing lawn area over the next few months until the filming commences.
Security guards will be monitoring the site 24 hours per day.
An environmental control officer will also be monitoring activities to ensure that all regulations are adhered to.
