Lupita, Brad Pitt in Hollywood movie

19 July 2013, 13:22 Maureene Danielle

Nairobi - Kenyan actress and filmmaker Lupita Nyong'o stars in the Hollywood movie 12 Years a Slave, a historical "based on a true story" from the autobiography "Twelve Years a Slave" by Solomon Northup.

Lupita who is also the daughter of Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o, made a powerful debut in the movie starring alongside Holly wood big names such as Brad Pitt, Nigeria's Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti and Alfre Woodard.

Lupita is known locally for her role in MTV drama series, "Shuga" released in 2009.

This is definately a win for many young aspiring Kenyan actors, and those on the continent as we see more African names associated with big budget productions and in starring roles.

12 Years a Slave shall be released on October 18.
