Washington - Roger Ebert, the most famous US film critic of recent decades, died on Thursday after a long battle with cancer, according to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times, the newspaper where he worked for decades.
Ebert, 70, reviewed films for the Sun-Times for 46 years and hosted a weekly television show of cinema reviews for 31 years.
His fight with thyroid and salivary gland cancer had left his face and neck disfigured from many surgeries in recent years.
He had been unable to speak or eat since 2006 but continued to review the movies he loved, announcing only this week that he would cut back his work schedule because of health issues.
He was the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize for newspaper commentary in 1975.
