VAT to push prices of goods up
03 September 2013, 15:30
Nairobi - Prices of some goods and services are expected to increase as the VAT Bill 2013 signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta comes into effect.
Last week Friday, Treasury gazetted Monday (yesterday) as the date for the bill to take effect. It subjects some items that were zero-rated or exempted from tax to 16 per cent tax, The Star reports.
This will now see prices of processed milk, cooking gas, electricity, exercise and text books, mobile phones, animal feeds and filming materials go up.
