University dons reject pay offer

Nairobi - Public university lecturers and workers are threatening to down their tools as of next week if they do n receive their last tranche of the deal striked for their pay and allowances amounting to KES 3.9 billion, The Standard reports.
Through their unions Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) and Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) the universities' staff said they had given the government up to August 5 to pay the remaining balance or face a serious industrial action.
Uasu secretary general Muga K’olale and his Kusu counterpart Charles Mukhwaya said the government should prepare to close down all public universities and their constituent colleges if they do not act.
