Safaricom launches online pay service

Nairobi - Safaricom on Wednesday launched a new product to enable its customers to make payments online using M-Pesa.
‘Lipa na M-Pesa online’ is expected to make it easier for M-Pesa customers to buy and sell online, according to the Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore.
Online transactions have increased, according to Capital Business, with an estimated 48 percent of mobile holders in the country having access to internet.
Recently, Equity bank partnered with online payment company, Paypal, giving a reprieve to local online merchants and buyers who do not have access to credit cards.
With Lipa na M-Pesa online, merchants will receive payments through their Paybill numbers, while buyers will use their mobile/M-Pesa numbers to make payments.
