Nairobi - Massmart Limited, Africa’s third largest distributor of consumer goods has found itself emboiled in a bitter succession war as it seeks to buy a majority stake in Kenya’s fourth largest supermarket.
The South African retail chain wants to buy a 51 per cent stake in Naivas Supermarket, in a sale opposed by Newton Kagiri Mukuha, the elder son of the late Peter Mukuha Kago, the founder of Naivas, who has moved filed a court case, Daily Nation reports.
In his suit, Mukuha, through his lawyer Evans Ondieki, told a Nakuru court on Wednesday that his siblings want to disinherit him by excluding him from discussions on the sale of the firm, yet he is the first born.
